No official age limit, typically taken by students aged 16 and above.

Types of TOEFL

TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Test) :

The most widely accepted version, administered online.

TOEFL PBT (Paper-Based Test) :

Offered in locations without internet access (limited availability).

TOEFL Exam Pattern

The TOEFL iBT is divided into four sections :

Reading

  • Duration : 54 – 72 minutes.
  • Tasks         
    3 – 4 academic progress (700 words each).
    30 – 40 questions.
  • Skills Assessed : Understanding main ideas, details and speaker intent.

Listening

    • Duration : 41 – 57 minutes.
    • Tasks         
      3 – 4 lectures (3 – 5 minutes each) with 6 questions per lecture.
      2 – 3 conversations (3 minutes each) with 5 questions per conversation.
  • Skills Assessed : Understanding main ideas, details and speaker intent.

Speaking

  • Duration : 17 minutes.
  • Tasks : 4 tasks, including independent and integrated speaking.
  • Skills Assessed : Fluency, clarity, and the ability to express ideas in English.

Writing

  • Duration : 50 minutes.
  • Tasks :
    1 integrated task (20 minutes) : Based on a reading and listening passage.
    1 independent task (30 minutes) : Opinion-based essay.
  • Skills Assessed : Coherence, grammar, and vocabulary.

Test Procedure

Before the Test :

  • Registration : Connect with our Experts.
  • Preparation : Utilize ETS's official preparation materials, including practice tests.

On Test Day :

  • Arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time.
  • Present a valid ID (passport is preferred).
  • Follow the instructions provided by the test administrators.

After the Test :

  • Scores are available online within 6 days.
  • Official score reports can be sent to up to 4 institutions for free.
