What is the GRE?

GRE Eligibility

Age
No official age limit, but candidates are typically undergraduates or above
Education
No minimum qualification, but intended for graduate school applicants.
Attempts
Up to 5 times a year with a 21-day gap between attempts.

Types of GRE

GRE General Test :

Assesses Analytical Writing, Verbal, and Quantitative skills; widely required for admissions.

GRE Subject Test :

Evaluates knowledge in specific fields:

GRE Exam Pattern (General Test)

The GRE General Test comprises three main sections:

Analytical Writing

  • Tasks: Analyze an Issue (30 minutes), Analyze an Argument (30 minutes).
  • Skills Assessed: Ability to articulate ideas, analyze arguments, and present complex ideas clearly.

Verbal Reasoning

  • Duration: Two sections, 30 minutes each.
  • Questions: 20 per section.
  • Tasks:
    1. Reading comprehension.
    2. Sentence equivalence.
    3. Text completion.
  • Skills Assessed: Vocabulary, reading comprehension, and critical thinking.

Quantitative Reasoning

  • Duration: Two sections, 35 minutes each.
  • Questions: 20 per section.
  • Tasks:
    1. Problem-solving.
    2. Quantitative comparisons.
    3. Data interpretation.
  • Skills Assessed: Basic math, algebra, geometry, and data analysis.
  • Unscored Section: Could be Verbal or Quantitative. Appears randomly and does not count toward your score

GRE Syllabus

Verbal Reasoning

Vocabulary-based questions. Critical reading. Identifying relationships between words and concepts.

Quantitative Reasoning

Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis. Word problems and real-life scenarios.

Analytical Writing

Argument and issue-based essay writing. Logical structuring and clarity in expression

Test Procedure

Before the Test:

  • Registration : Connect with our Experts.
  • Preparation : Use ETS official resources and third-party materials. Take practice tests to familiarize yourself with the format.

On Test Day:

  • Arrive at the test center early or log in for the online test 30 minutes before.
  • Bring valid ID (passport preferred).
  • Follow instructions and complete the test sections sequentially.

After the Test:

  • Preview unofficial Verbal and Quantitative scores immediately.
  • Official scores are available within 10–15 days.
  • Send scores to up to 4 institutions for free.
